Seoul. Korea, 25 October 2023 -- The 2023 Salesian Missions Day took place in the provincial house on 22 October in Seoul. The event was held under the theme of "Care for creation, our mission," with the Salesian Family from various areas in Korea attending.
The event began with a keynote speech by Fr. Stephen Yu, the Missions Delegate, about the purpose of Salesian Missions Day. Fr. John the Baptist Park, the delegate for the Eco-spirituality committee of the province, gave the main address on Eco-spirituality based on Pope Frnacis’ Laudato Si'. He explained the risks of various ongoing climate changes and emphasized the necessity of environmental protection to save the Earth. He also mentioned that cooperating in environmental protection is the first step towards our mission.
After lunch, a flea market was open in the hall. Many people donated their goods for the market. All the profits of the market will be sent to Don Bosco Aurangabad Society for their projects.
In the afternoon, SDB, FMA, SCG (Caritas Sisters of Jesus), and Salesian Cooperators introduced their works in the community for Eco-spirituality. One of the communities diligently practices waste separation and recycling. Another community collects rainwater in a large container and uses it to water the plants. All the Salesian Family is trying to save the Earth. There was a group sharing followed by introductions as well.
The event concluded with Mass. The Provincial presided at the Mass. He shared his experience of Environmental protection with the participants in his homily. Through this event, we could promise to practice ecological spirituality and strive to save the Earth.
