Suva, Fiji, 28 November 2022 -- The Pacific Regional Seminary celebrated its 50th jubilee anniversary last week culminating with the graduation of students who have completed their studies in philosophy and those who have completed their studies in theology. Our very own confrere, Deacon Minh Duc Nguyen (SDB), was the first from Vietnam to graduate from PRS with a Bachelor of Divinity with distinction.
After his Practical Training in Samoa, Dc. Minh Duc came to Suva (Fiji) to begin these theological studies. He is one of three missionaries from Vietnam in our community. Since his diaconate ordination on 19 March 2022, Minh Duc has been helping out in the pastoral activities of our newly established Parish of Saint John Bosco.
The Papal Nuncio, Archbishop Novatus Rugambwa, presided at the Eucharist, and among the many priests who concelebrated were Cardinal Soane Patita Paini Mafi from Tonga, Bishop Peter Loy Chong (Archbishop of the Diocese of Fiji), Bishop Peter Brown (Former bishop of the Diocese of American Samoa), Bishop John Bosco Baremes (Bishop of the Diocese of Port Vila) and all religious superiors and rectors.
Many past students of PRS, religious and lay people joined in the week-long events to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the seminary. It was fitting that this milestone in the history of PRS concluded with the Eucharist and the feast.
May God continue to bless Deacon Minh Duc Nguyen as he prepares himself for his Ordination to the Priesthood on 4 December. Mary Help of All People, pray for us!
