Hoc Mon, HCM, Vietnam, 12 August 2022 -- The VIE Social Communication Commission organized a course on Basic Communication for 18 pre-novices at Dominic Savio Cau Bong community (Hoc Mon, Ho Chi Minh City) from 3-10 August 2022.
The aim was to equip the pre-novices with basic knowledge and a positive sense of educational and evangelizing presence in the digital world, in the spirit of Don Bosco.
On August 3 and 5, Father Augustine Phuc instructed the students in how to write news - a basic genre in the field of journalism. Through practical experiences, Father Augustine imparted to the students not only basic knowledge regarding books, but he also broadened this by giving specific examples so students could learn good things and also learn from common mistakes in news articles.
In just two sessions, the students learned valuable skills and specific steps for writing different kinds of news items such as: short news, report news, photo news, .... In the second session students practiced what they had learned by writing a news report about an event of their choice.
Images as well as text play an important role in reporting, so in the next class, Brother John Baptist Pham Hong Phuoc shared the role of images in communication with the class, and how to effectively capture precious moments.
On this occasion, Mr. Joseph Kieu Dang Khoa, a former Don Bosco aspirant with more than 10 years of experience in the professional photography field, also accompanied Brother John, sharing his knowledge about photography and cameras. He enthusiastically conveyed easy ways of understanding “how to master the device” to all concerned. All the students were very excited and ready to ask questions to learn more useful knowledge.
Although the course was short, it gave students new thinking and skills for their active presence in the digital world. Hopefully this useful knowledge will be valuable equipment for future pastors to have more means to preach about God and transmit the core values of the Congregation to young people effectively.
