Manaus, Brasile, September 16, 2015 - On the occasion of the Rector Major, Fr. Angel F. Artime, visit to Brasile - Manaus (Amazon) province, two of the Vietnamese missionaries in BMA together with their three companions made their perpetual profession.
Both Vietnamese missionaries Cl. Joseph Hoang and Cl. John Baptist Dinh are candidates to the priesthood and were sent during the 141st Salesian Missionary Expedition in 2010 by Fr. Pascual Chavez as first group to Brasile missions for the indigenous people of the Amazon region.
The visit of the Rector Major, Fr Ángel Fernández Artime in this province marks 100 years of Salesian Missions of 'Rio Negro'. From Manaus the Rector Major also visited the São Gabriel da Cachoeira, former Salesian Apostolic Vicariate still with a vibrant Salesian missionary presences among different ethnic groups, among them also the Yanomami tribe. Such was the gratitude of all the citizens in this town towards the Salesians that the day was declared a feast and the mayor of the city accompanied Fr Á.F. Artime as he visited the streets of the town. During the Eucharist, celebrated in the presence of many indigenous people of the Yanomami and Tukano tribes, eleven people made their promise as Salesian Cooperators.
