EAO Rectors Formation fruits (4)

By Our Own Correspondent

Cheung Chau, Hong Kong, 28 November, 2018 -- The 60 or so Salesians from eight provinces of our EAO region spent their last full day in Cheung Chau Don Bosco Retreat Centre (Day 4) praying together, sharing meals together, sharing together and discovering the inner landscape of the Salesian rector, Salesian spirituality and Salesian way of leadership.

A wonderful synergy of input by a Salesian Brother, Raymond Callo (FIN) and a Salesian Priest, Henry Bonetti (KOR) helps the new and old rectors gain many deep insights ito the dynamics of Salesian vocation accompaniment, apostolic consecration and community animation.

Each Goodnight or morning Eucharist homily is also a wonderful mutual inspiration and encouragement. Yesterday's homily was shared by Fr Agnello (Rector of Baucau in TLS) and today by Fr Joel Camaya (Rector of Don Bosco College in Canlubang, FIN).

Just one deeply felt personal feeling of a young new rector might be inspiring for many others:

"Yesterday we were asked to share our joy and pains with each other. For each one of us, there may be many 'earthquakes, famines, and plagues' that we encounter in life. They will take on various forms and will be the cause of much distress. But they do not need to be. If we understand that Jesus is aware of the chaos we may encounter and if we understand that He actually prepared us for it, we will be more at peace when the troubles come. I think all of us know the lyrics of this song:

“There is no problem too big - God cannot solve it

There is no mountain too tall - God cannot move it.”

Therefore let us not tell God we have a big problem but tell the problem we have a big God. If this is the case then troubles, all the pains, all the difficulties, all the challenges become an opportunity for us to strengthen our faith in God to surrender more to God’s will. So dear brothers don’t give up. Don’t submit your resignation letter."

On the last full day in the Cheung Chau Don Bosco Retreat house the participants gave thanks to the local Rector and Retreat House staff mission partners, and bid farewell to a few members leaving early and their Regional Councillor as well. The variety of rich input prepared by the two resource persons are available not only in digital form on G-drive, but each Rector has dedicated time to reshaping his 'Personal project of Life'.

Today on 28 November, as we do each month, we PRAY FOR THE RECTORS and PRIESTS IN CHARGE of our NON CANONICAL COMMUNITIES: Please, don't forget!
