As the country moves towards development the SDBs have no other choice but to keep themselves abreast with these changes. We need to read the signs of the time and move with Salesian flexibility and creativity. We can say that we are preparing to act to meet the challenges of the time.
The Vice Province of Myanmar (MYM) has 29 priests, 1 perpetually professed lay brother, 1 deacon, 4 perpetually professed and 3 temporary professed students of theology. There are 16 practical trainees and 15 postnovices. 9 novices add to the strength of the province. These are numbers, but beyond quantity we hope they are also quality and strength.
A great deal of responsibility lies on the work of formation as we have so many in the formation. MYM has sufficient formation settings though not perfect. Last month the practical trainees had a seminar. Most of them expressed their enthusiasm for the Salesian mission. Though we do not have private schools most of them had experiences of educating and being with the young. 7 of them are finishing their second year of practical training and will be moving to theology in the following year. We hope and pray that God will give them the grace of perseverance".
