New College Chapel, Rupertswood
MELBOURNE  27 August 2012 --  The new St. John Bosco chapel at Salesian College 'Rupertswood' was officially blessed and opened by the Archbishop of Melbourne, Most Rev Denis Hart, DD on Friday, 24th August.

The opening Mass was concelebrated by the Salesian provincial, the rector of the college, and a number of Salesians from Melbourne. Ten students from each house of the college were able to attend the Mass with their teacher. Some special guests and parents were also invited to this Mass including Anthony Russo the architect, Stephen Herbst the builder, Santos the painter and Brendon the electrician all of whom contributed so much to the new chapel.

During the homily the archbishop said that he was very delighted to be at the college to lead this opening blessing Eucharist. He encouraged the school community to use this space venerably to meet God and to be fed by the Word, and the Body and Blood of Christ.

After the communion, a ciborium full of Holy Communion was placed in the tabernacle for the first time. Fr Frank Moloney SDB, the former provincial, took the honour of turning on the tabernacle light immediately after the communion and when the remaining particles were placed in the tabernacle.

At the end of the Mass, the principal of the college, Mark Brockhus thanked the archbishop, the Salesians, and all who contributed in the making of this new chapel.

All distinguished guests, students and staff were treated with a special lunch in the Ballroom, the old chapel, following the Mass.
