BCS gets under way for new academic year

PARAÑAQUE: 17 June 2012 --  Given the extent of our region from northern to southern hemisphere, with its different academic year, school year rhythms, it should be no surprise that some parts of the region are just about halfway through their academic year, while others are just starting!  The latter is the case for the Don Bosco Center of Studies in Parañaque, Philippines. The academic year has had its official start on 11 June.

Mass in the Don Bosco Center of Studies (DBCS) Chapel at 8:00 am on 11 June saw  Fr. Alex Garces presiding as the new President of the DBCS (and, at least for now, continuing as provincial secretary of FIN).

Those taking part included the professors, the superiors of different congregations and orders (Priests and sisters) with formandi at DBCS, lay people teaching, working (staff members) and studying in DBCS.

2012-2013 is the Year of Faith and Grace, and this has also been adopted at DBCS by the new president as its vision and mission "We are an academic community of disciples of Christ, the Good Shepherd, seeking to form Priests, Religious and Laity as Youth ministers and Educators in Faith, thus effectively responding to the challenge of New Evangelization in the spirit of Saint John Bosco".

Fr Alex acknowledged in particular the former president of DBCS Fr. Eligio Santos,  the Teaching and non-teaching Staff of DBCS, Fr. Pepe Jose Reinoso, Rector of the Seminaryo ng Don Bosco and  other superiors of other congregations present and absent, and the outgoing Student Council.

The Mass included the Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity by the new and senior Professors.

A Seminar on Liturgy followed the Mass: overview of the Eucharistic and the new English translation of the Roman Missal animated by Fr. Anscar Chupungco OSB SThD (Paul VI Liturgical Institute). Bishop Jesse E. Mercado of the diocese of Paranaque, was present for this.

In the afternoon there was meeting of teaching staff from DBCS and the superiors and formators of the religious congregations involved.
