"I have a mission!"
Swearing in of student representatives DBTI

HENDERSON, SI: 6 March 2012 --  The announcement and swearing in of new leaders is always an exciting and invigorating time. The ceremony that took place at DBTI was no exception to this rule as the 16 new student leaders, elected by their peers, promised to serve their classmates, their teachers and uphold the ethos of Don Bosco in their actions.

The 16 new leaders were officially presented and welcomed as part of the Eucharistic celebration that placed a strong focus on the ability of each person to change his or her life, and to change the wider world. In his introduction the Rector, Fr Ambrose Pereira SDB, read from a card that was then presented to each of the new leaders, saying that “God has created me for a special purpose. I have a mission”. His homily expanded on the idea of individual student mission. He encouraged each student to examine their lives now and make the changes necessary for the achievement of their short and long term goals.

The student leaders of DBTI are the class captains appointed by each group. The young men and women elected will stand for their peers as members of the SRC and will also work as assistants to the various events and activities that take place around the school. Among these 16 were the elected School Captain Ken Tolo’ofa and School Vice-Captain Florence Kwana’au.

Ken Tolo’ofa finished the morning’s official events with an inspiring speech about his desire to serve others as he continues to forge his own identity as a young person and a leader. He asked everyone to work with him, as his friends, as there was no place for a leader who worked entirely in his own. His words were greeted with an enthusiastic applause, indicating that he will be well respected by those he serves.  Ken will represent the students as a member of the School Board. 

The new leaders serve throughout 2012. We wish them all the best for the hard work and responsibilities that lie ahead.
