Installation of new Aus-Pac Provincial
ASCOT VALE (Melbourne): 19 December 2011 -- Friday 16 December was a
significant day for the Australia-Pacific Province. The Provincial Council met for most of the day, bringing to a close its work for 2011, and setting in motion the mission and governance structures for 2012.

This was followed by the installation of Fr Greg Chambers SDB as the provincial of the Salesians of Don Bosco in Australia and Pacific, at the province centre at Ascot Vale in Victoria. He begins the role on 1st January 2012 for a term of six years.

The installation service was led by the out-going provincial, Fr Frank Moloney SDB, in the presence of many members of the Salesian Family, SDB, FMA and other.

An interesting feature during the prayer service was the traditional handing over of gold sovereigns from the out-going provincial to the incoming provincial as a sign of passing over leadership and authority. This tradition was started by the first provincial of the province, Fr B M Fedrigotti in 1958.

During the prayer service and dinner, Fr Moloney thanked all members of the province for their support and cooperation during his term as provincial in the last six years. He encouraged the incoming provincial and all Salesians to keep the charismatic nature of the spirit of Don Bosco alive in the province.

During the meal, Fr Greg Chambers also thanked Fr Moloney for his leadership and generous contribution to the province during his term.
