Dads' days

TETERE (SI): 24 November 2011 --  Hundreds of fathers of families gathered during the weekend of 18 to 20 November 2011 for a three day conference at Christ the King, Tetere Parish. During the program, various speakers presented their talks on different issues that are relevant to helping equip these dads in their daily lives.
The talks were based on different issues from different movements in the Catholic Church such as the Legion of Mary, Pioneers, Divine Mercy, Couples for Christ, Family Ministry, Family Life Apostolate (Archdiocese of Honiara) and natural family planning from the Good Samaritan Hospital.
The program was organised by the the Christ the King Catechists Association and the Parish Priest. “It was a good program that had been organised for our Catholic men here in this parish,” said Willie Kurai from Koivo local community.
“I think here in this parish we fathers are more vulnerable to development impacts relating to economic and social issues", “For our fathers to attend such program annually I believe it will help some of our doubts”, were two of the comments overheard.
However Fr. Michael Lap sdb, Parish Priest of Christ the King said, “we can do with grace of our Lord.”
It was privilege to have Archbishop Adrian Smith, sm Archbishop of Honiara with the group mid afternoon on Saturday, the second day of the program. He was impressed when he witnessed the huge number of Catholic men participating in the program. During the discussion on the natural family planning fact the archbishop stressed that all of us are created in the image of God, and that is why male or female sterilisation is forbidden in the church. He also spoke to the fathers about good stewardship in their own community and families.
Archbishop Adrian Smith celebrated the Mass on Saturday evening, assisted by Fr. Michael Lap, while Don Bosco Tetere students led the congregation as a choir. Sunday was a special Feast Day at Christ the King Parish and hundreds of parishioners brought their own foods to share with each other.
After the Mass entertainment was provided by the Don Bosco Tetere RTC Students.
