The Salesians in Blitar and the Educational Program of the Surabaya Diocese

BLITAR: 3 July 2010 -- A three day seminar given to future school principals for the Catholic schools of Surabaya Diocese (Third District), which ran from 29 June till 1 July, was held in the Marian shrine of Phosarang, Kediri - East Java. Along with other diocesan priests and lay persons, two Salesians who have arrived in the diocese relatively recently (an entirely new Salesian presence) Br Ephrem Santos and Fr Lino Belo, shared insights and resources with the 71 participants destined for the different catholic schools of the district. Among the participants were also non-Catholic teachers because Catholics are a minority in East Java, Indonesia, which has a predominantly Muslim population.
As the Salesians become more involved in the educational work of the diocese, there will be opportunities to talk about St John Bosco and the Salesian preventive system.
