Priestly rejoicing in Australia-Pacific!

MELBOURNE and APIA:  13th December 2009 -- The Australia-Pacific Province has every reason to rejoice as two of its members are ordained, one a deacon, the other a priest.
Rev. Martin Tanti was ordained deacon on Friday 4th December in Melbourne by Bishop Tim Costelloe SDB.  Bishop Tim drew on the two Advent figures of Mary and John the Baptist as examples for the newly ordained to follow, for their capacity to listen to God's will and put it into practice.
Martin has been 'on the road' for some time, faithfully and persistently listening to and following the call that he and his Salesian confreres have discerned as a call to priestly ministry. He turned 40 this year. The family is of Maltese extraction but Martin was born in Melbourne and completed his schooling with the Salesians at Salesian College 'Rupertswood'.  He has been at the Salesian community at Lysterfield now for a number of years where he has held the position as bursar of the community and is now the Director of the Retreat Centre.
Visesio Muliaga, on the other hand, was ordained priest by the Archbishop of Apia on Friday 11th December.  Fr Visesio hails from the archdiocese, having been born at Tuana'i, Fale'ula parish not from the capital Apia.  He made his novitiate in Australia (Lysterfield), did his practical training at DB Alafua in Samoa, then completed his theological studies in Suva, Fiji at the Pacific Regional College..  Fr Visesio will be posted to the newly established parish (you can read more about that in the musings in the EAO Blog, see below) of Salelologa which is looking forward to the blessing, finally, of the new parish church on 18th December, and the opening of a new Salesian school in 2011 God willing.
Many good reasons, then, for rejoicing in the Province.  You can follow more of developments in the province by visiting what has now evolved into an aesthetically pleasing and informative e-letter and website known as SNAP,  Salesian News Australia-Pacific, managed by Fr Will Matthews, the SC Delegate for the province.
