Province Co-workers Education Meeting - Korea

SEOUL: 12 October 2009 -- In all Salesian houses whereever the young may be, in the dining hall, the playground, the workshop or the classroom you will find lay people. The Korean province has completed two workshops this year on the Salesian spirit for all the laymen and women who work with us. The first was held on March 19-20 and the second on September 17-18. Both were held at the Salesian Youth Pastoral Institute at the provincial house in Seoul.
The two seminars gave them a taste of Salesian spirituality, the work we are doing and the Salesians as a world-wide society. The 125 lay collaborators who attended received a new vision of Salesian identity.
On the first day the program consisted of getting to know one another through different games, a lecture on spirituality, an introduction to the Salesian society and a solid 'Goodnight'. The second day they had a lecture on "The Attitudes Needed for a Salesian Educator" and each group by house presented the work they and the Salesians were doing in that house.
While they were in their respective houses they worked together but this is the first time that all those of each house were gathered in one spot. At first the atmosphere was a little stiff but as time went on each group melted in with the others and the whole group formed one community around Don Bosco in joy and camaraderie.
In the commissioning Mass at the conclusion Fr. Stephen Sang-Hon Nam, Provincial, gave the homily, asking the participants to go forth with a new vision toward the young inspired by the same ardour with which Don Bosco approached them. We hope that next year we can continue with this program and develop it as the collaborators found it very useful and exciting.
