austraLasia #2427

An important message - and time for a little fun!

ROME: 29th May 2009 -- Just so I can get my breath back again after so much material coming in, here is first of all an important note regarding the previous austraLasia #2427.
Members of the Salesian Family from EAO and Sth ASIA regions can request copies of Starting Again from Don Bosco from the Australia-Pacific Province, since the bulk of them have been shipped in that direction.  You may email susand@salesians.org.au  regarding your request.
--------
And now for a little fun.
1. Only last week, the same Aus-Pac Province requested some items from this end - the usual Mass books, Proper Offices etc.  I duly passed on the note to those responsible here and asked them to send these items to the Provincial's personal secretary, Ms Susan Drew.
The response was immediate - she got them within a few days of the request note passed on - addressed to Rev Fr Susan Drew SDB. Susan has been with us around 27 years....it has taken her that long to get ordained!

2.  Was waiting at the bus stop at the Hotel Pisana the other day during peak hour morning traffic. Two elderly Italian ladies were holding a conversation that only two elderly Italian ladies could hold: they were standing at opposite bus stops.  Now that's where hand gestures really begin to play a part!

3.  Later that day I spent several hours in the Vatican 'Questura' awaiting the all-too-frequently required 'soggiorno'. Mine expired a year ago but they are only just getting out the paperwork for its renewal.  A young Argentinian Sister sat next to me.  After several hours of paper shuffling and interminable explanations she was getting nowhere fast with her request.  She turned to me and said, in Spanish, hoping the female cop would not understand (out of luck there, I'd say): "This is worse than childbirth"!  I presume Sister is a nurse.

Until tomorrow....
