Youth Ministry with wider resonance

MANILA: 14th November 2008 -- The Philippines North Province (FIN) Salesian Commission on Youth Ministry and the Commission on Social Communication are organizing a whole day seminar-workshop for student leaders from both private and public high schools around Metro-Manila on the theme “Engagement with Student Leaders.” The event takes place today, 14 November 2008,  at the Philippine Trade and Training Center. The event is expected to draw some 500 participants for the purpose of increasing youth’s awareness of the best leadership practices and of increasing their networking with fellow student leaders.
Fr. Elu Ulanday is currently the province's link with the Commission on Student Leadership under the Catholic Educational Association of the Philippines (CEAP) – National Capital Region (NCR). Recently, alumnus Msgr. Gerry Santos was elected CEAP national president. Direct province involvement with the Commission on Student Leadership links them particularly with young people from the tertiary level, a new frontier Salesians need to prioritize as directed by the FIN Provincial Chapter 2007.
Recently the FIN Provincial, writing to confreres, said "Our work in the elementary and secondary levels is important and necessary. But they are no longer our point of arrival. We cannot merely be a great and memorable stop along the way, postcards of good times. There is an 'educational emergency' as mentioned by Pope Benedict XVI to the members of GC26 which calls for our decisive presence among the youth in institutes of higher education - where culture is built, life decisions are made, and sanctity is advanced".
