WYD participants organize Youth Rally
by
 Anna Manekiki, Youth animator

TETERE (Christ the King Parish, Solomon Islands): 2nd October:
The annual Youth Rally of Christ the King Parish, run by the Salesians, was held from 23rd to 28th September 2008, with the theme “You will be my witnesses”, the 2nd part of the World Youth Day theme.  In fact, the chief organizers were the 13 pilgrims who went from the parish to Sydney for the WYD Celebrations.  Other youth leaders were co-opted to form the LOC (Local Organizing Committee).
The participants began to come in from Wednesday morning, though the official registrations began at 3.00 pm.  There were 186 participants to begin the program at 5.30 pm.
Day 2 focused on “Vocation Orientation” with input from various congregations of Priests, Brothers, Sisters and Lay people.
Day 3 focused on “Health and Peace issues” with input from nurses, police, chiefs and educators.  More participants joined in for the weekend.
Day 4 focused on “witness”.  The high point was the 150 minutes of Vigil with the Blessed Sacrament exposed and the LOC leading the adoration service with hymns, Scripture reflections, sharing of testimonies, while three pateres (priests) heard the confessions of practically everyone.
Token prizes were given to the youth group that proved best in all the programs.  Sali, Talaura and Grove youth groups won 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize respectively.
The program concluded with the Parish Sunday Mass. Rev. Fr. Andrew Wong SDB, the Salesian Regional Councillor for East Asia Oceania
was the main celebrant for the Eucharist.
A “Youth Leaders Training Camp” was announced from 8-12 December ’08 with a view to strengthening the youth commission of the parish.
