Salesian Postnovices attend COMIUCAP international philosophers congress
MANILA: 16th September 2008 -- The Don Bosco Postnovitiate (house of philosophy) in Canlubang joined the the 3rd World Congress of the Conférence Mondiale des Institutions Universitaires Catholiques de Philosophie - COMUICAP (World Congress of Catholic University Institutions of Philosophy) from September 11 to 13, 2008. The COMIUCAP conference which is conducted once every four years, was held in Manila.
The 2008 Manila Congress tackled the notion of transcendence, "a notion that both unites and separates philosophical and religious traditions and whose relevance is heightened by the Congress' location in Southeast Asia and its religious realities". The theme was developed through the plenary assemblies and philosophical workshops conducted by speakers from different parts of the world and the Philippines.
The Ateneo de Manila University (run by the Jesuits) and the University of Santo Tomas (run by the Dominicans), two of the top universities in the Philippines, co-hosted the international gathering. The conference welcomed deans, professors and postgraduate students of philosophy and theology from all over the world.
The event concluded with a Mass at which the Archbishop of Manila, His Eminence Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales presided.
The conference material will prove relevant to the Salesian postnovices in their dialouge with the multitude of religions, cultures and philosophies they encounter in Asia, other than offering them the intellectual training and familiarisation with various ideologies young people find themselves in. Attendance at the Conference was seen as a way of providing an understanding for young Salesians to draw them out of these situations and lead them to the promised heaven.
