Interesting 'twins': Salesian College 'Rupertswood', Sunbury, Australia and Liceo Prati, Trento, Italy

TRENT: 15th September 2008 -- About the only thing that Salesian College Sunbury and the Liceo Prati Trent seem to have in common is their deep roots in the history of their two separate nations. Salesian College 'Rupertswood' bears the name of one of the famous names of Australian colonial times, Sir Rupert Clarke, and has a magnificently restored mansion to prove it.  It is, some degree of historical scholarship suggests, also a likely contender for the place where the famous 'Ashes' of cricketing history, came into existence.  It is also the location of the famed Half Battery of Horse Artillery, still in existence as an historical cadet unit for the College. For something still a little short of a century, it has been a Salesian schoool. Liceo Prati on the other hand, has roots that go back into the early 18th century, having begun as a Jesuit school, belonged to a variety of Empires, seen wars and revolutions, a famous Church Council, and is now named after Giovanni Prati, the best known neo-romantic poet of this region tucked into the lower Alps and sharing a variety of languages.
Schools in the Province of Trent have done much to reach out beyond their immediate area, through Europe and beyond.  Liceo Prati teaches English, Salesian College 'Rupertswood' teaches Italian and besides, students and staff from these two schools exchange in a variety of ways. Currently a group of students and staff from Salesian College are visiting Italy.
On 18th September, in Trent and at Liceo Prati, obviously, the twinning arrangement will culminate in a seminar on 'The Australian school system', with the backing of the local ministry for education. It is aimed particularly at ongoing formation of staff. The presentation of the Australian system will be done by the Melbourne school's vice principal accompanied by the teacher of Italian, and English literature at 'Rupertswood'.
