New blog shows resilience and initiative of a people

YANGON: 14th September 2008 -- It is more than appropriate that on the Feast of the Exultation of the Holy Cross, a new Salesian blog has emerged.  We point to Yangon in Myanmar, but perhaps we should also point to Rome, since the blog creator, Fr Mariano Soe Naing, is currently at the UPS in Rome.  Fr Mariano has been the Social Communications Delegate for MYM and is demonstrating his capacity in the communications field in a particularly moving way on this occasion.
In his brief email on the blog (which you can find at http://mymrc.blogspot.com), Fr Mariano explains that he wishes to show what the Catholic Church's response to Cyclone Nargis has been.  He writes under his own responsibility, not that of the Church, but the Myanmar Church will be delighted with what he has achieved.
Although the various letters of Archbishop Bo have been presented through austraLasia over the period following Nargis, you will find much more available on this blog, including eye-witness accounts of assistance given to thousands of people by the Church through its various agencies, and photos. Salesian activity is prominent amongst these.
It would be worth just spending 5 minutes (actually five and a half minutes) with the YouTube video on the blog's home page. No need to understand the language - the video images tell their own story.
There are very many Salesians in our region active with blogs.  I wonder if each of them would be kind enough to drop austraLasia a line and indicate their blog address?  It would be nice to offer a list of these, as yet another demonstration of communications vitality around the Region.
In the meantime - well done Mariano!
