The Passion of GC26 put into practice in Pakistan...

LAHORE: 28th April 2008 -- March was a complicated month after the terrible bombing that destroyed the Federal Building, right across the street from the Lahore Cathedral. We had the chance to visit the site a few hours later and the place was havoc: the Archbishop’s Residence was badly damaged, the doors of the Cathedral had been torn off and the stain glass windows (imported from Belgium 100 years ago) were destroyed. The Caritas Building was also considerably damaged and it was by sheer luck that “only” a security guard and the 3 year old daughter of the Bishop’s driver were killed. We will take a direct role in the construction of the new Bishop's Residence but we cannot give details yet... 
    But even such events could not destroy the work at Don Bosco and we achieved, for the second consecutive time, a 100% tally of Graduates in the last Government call for Technical Exams. This way we became outstanding for the training being conducted on our site and this has had an immediate effect: we are the only Christian Technical Institution selected in the whole of Punjab to be beneficiary of a Government Package as an incentive towards quality of Technical Training. We had the second Government Inspection just last Friday and the conclusion was: “Fathers, we will stand by your side because you are doing a great service to this nation. Expect the best of Reports from our side”. They were impressed with the Contract we have signed recently with the Belgian Capuchin Province to fabricate hundreds of dining tables, thousands of chairs and beds, the construction of 232 houses, assembling of 100 rickshaws etc.

And so we march on towards our 6th graduation ceremony that will see some students already employed in big Companies thanks to the work of our  ILO (International Labour Organisation representative). He, together with the Administrator, were recently trained in the Don Bosco Politech in the Southern Philippines. And in a few days time 2 youths from Pakistan will start the Novitiate in Cebu while another will profess as a Salesian and yet another start his 2nd Year of Philosophy.

Something is moving in Pakistan…
