Holy Spirit - 2: EAO - 0 (until tomorrow)

ROME: 27th March 2008 -- I guess you could see it coming.  Today the Assembly voted Fr Vaclav Klement in as Missions Councillor. Those who are close to him know that despite his deep love for the Region he is, at base, a missionary, and an excellent choice.  But that doesn't stop one's eyes filling up a little, and a sense of loss.  Anyway, the Salesian world wins out.  The Rector Major thanked Fr Alencherry for the incredible amount of work he had undertaken, not just as Mission Councillor but also as stand-in for the coordinator of Africa-Madagascar after Fr de Pablo's death.  Fr Alencherry had already indicated clearly to the Assembly that he would not be available for a second term.
So, as surmised earlier, now the Regions go into a huddle - and most of them are looking for a regional!  The huddle will be facilitated and led by an appointed non-regional person; anybody not belonging to the Region will not have a vote, until it comes to the final vote of course where the Chapter confirms the choice of a Region (or otherwise but it never happens otherwise). For EAO names are popping up here and there and a number of these are not at the Chapter - so that gives those of you are awake over the next few hours something to think about!
My guess is it will all be over bar the shouting by tomorrow evening.
Yes, I know - you are asking why Holy Spirit - 2; easy: Fr Fabio Attard got a landslide in the voting before lunch. So with YM, SC, Missions in place today plus the others yesterday and the day before, it just remains to get the Regionals in place.  No names - that would be gossip!
    Until tomorrow...
