FIN: Salesian Family Commission Spirituality Weekend (and other Salesian Family matters)
BATULAO: 10th November 2007 -- The weekend of 9-11 November writes a new page in the history of the Philippines North Province: the first spirituality weekend for the newly constituted Salesian Family Commission. Fr Bobby Mac Roxas, Provincial Delegate for the Salesian Family, explains that the weekend is meant to emulate, in a sense, the annual Salesian Family Spirituality Days held in Rome, and hopefully also encourage participation in that event in January 2008, as well as in the later Salesian Cooperators EAR (East Asia Region) Congress in Macao in May 2008.
The FIN Salesian Family Commission Spirituality Weekend takes place at Batulao, South of Manila, the well-known Salesian Retreat House for the Province. Salesian Family representatives include SDB, FMA, ASC (Salesian Cooperators), ADMA (Mary Help of Christians Association), ADS (Damas Salesianas, or 'Salesian Women'), VDB, CSM, and Past Pupils of both the SDB and FMA presences. Most groups have between 5 and 7 representatives in attendance.
The central theme for the weekend is the 2008 Strenna of the Rector Major: Let us educate with the heart of Don Bosco. The Friday evening began with Evening Prayer followed by dinner, then rosary and the Goodnight talk by Sr Alice Fulgencio FMA. The keynote addresses are 'Educating with the heart of Don Bosco (Fr Francis Gustilo SDB), Integral Development of the Young (Ms. Belen M VDB), Promoting Human Rights, especially of juveniles (Mr. Lawrence Simpao of the Don Bosco Alumni Philippines National Federation). Both SDB and FMA Provincials, Sr Alice Fulgencio and Fr Andrew Wong respectively, are part of the gathering.
News of this initiative is likely to encourage interest in the forthcoming Salesian Family Spirituality Days in Rome in January. Registration for this latter event is now open and can be easily achieved by visiting www.sdb.org home page and clicking on the registration icon in the left hand column.
The Salesian Cooperators' 5th EAR Congress to be held in Macau in May of next year can also be followed up (including registration) by visiting www.bosconet.aust.com and clicking on the reference to the Macau Congress in the right hand column.
