Four East Timor ordinations bring great joy to ITM

FUILORO-LOSPALOS: 23rd October 2007 -- Four young East Timorese Salesians were ordained to the priesthood on 20th October 2007 at St. Paul's Parish Lospalos, East Timor by Bishop Basilio do Nascimento, bishop of Bacau, East Timor.
The four newly ordained are: Fr Domingos Caitano, from Mehara sub district Tutuala, in Lautem district, Fr Gui do Carmo from Nahareka sub district Ossu, Viqueque district, Fr Helio Cabral, from Luro sub district, in Lautem-Lospalos district, and Fr Silvano de Oliveira, from Iliomar sub district, in Lautem district.
Somewhat typical of major liturgical events in East Timor, the ordination ceremony lasted six hours, beginning at 8.00 in the morning with a traditional dance and then followed by a minutely-prepared liturgy. Our correspondent at the event reports that there were between 5-6,000 people present, including a concelebrating bishop, Bishop Cornelio SIM, bishop of Brunei. Two Vicar Generals (Dili, Bacau) were amongst the 40 concelebrating priests, and of course the ITM Provincial, Fr Andres Calleja.
One of the newly ordained, Fr Silvano de Oliveira, will be leaving shortly to go on mission to Italy.
