Volunteers with Don Bosco (CDB) present the Institute in Vietnam

HCM City: 5th September 2007 -- The Volunteers With Don Bosco (CDB or 'con Don Bosco') are a male Salesian branch of consecrated lay persons, around 70 in number, but slowly increasing in numbers in the EAO Region, where there vocational efforts were first fruitful in Korea in 1999.  IN recent weeks they have had the opportunity to present their Secular Institute to the various branches of the Salesian Family in Vietnam.
The CDB representative focused his conferences on some of the well-known models of Salesianity and on the nature of various vocations ot consecrated life. He found people interested and attentive.
In particular there was a meeting with a Salesian bishop in the Hanoi region, which was an opportunity to explain aspects of the CDB Constitutions and the steps of discernment involved in becoming a member of the Institute.  There has already been an expression of interest on the part of one or more potential candidates from Vietnam.
The visitor, of course, did not speak Vietnamese, but he found an immediate welcome from the Salesian Provincial of Vietnam, who putaside a number of his own tasks to accompany him and also arranged for interpreters elsewhere.
One of the striking features of Catholic life in Vietnam, for the visitor, was the openness to and obvious fruitfulness of vocation to consecrated life. As he put it: "Religious vocation sin this country, whether to male or female groups, are very many.  This is the case for all Orders or Congregations.  The Salesian Sisters were very happy to meet me and to hear about the CDB.  I was able to be present for the perpetual profession ceremony of 12 of the Sisters".  He then concludes:
"I am confident our Institute will receive vocations in this land of Vietnam too.  I am grateful to those who made this visit possible and who gave the CDB a chance to witness to their vocation 'with Don Bosco'".
A quick check in the austraLasia collection of sdl.sdb.org  with a search on CDB will indicate other news items concerning this group in the region (for those items thus far complete with metadata in SDL viz., years 2002, 2003, 2007 and most of 2006).
