Australian Youth Ambassador for Development farewelled from Honiara

HONIARA: 2nd September 2007 -- After a year with Catholic Communications Solomons, Australian Youth Ambassador for Development (AYAD) volunteer, Stephanie March, now says goodbye.
Since joining Catholic Communications, Ms March has enabled the office to run several more media programmes, indicated the CCS Director, Fr Ambrose Pereira sdb. "She has interacted with the youngsters and the people in and around Honiara and shared her communication skills with them", Fr Pereira said.
Ms March has been involved in conducting seminars and training for Catholic Communications and radio personnel, and has help put together two training manuals: Community Radio Stations in the Solomon Islands and Spread the News! Making a newsletter for your school. She has also helped revive the Solomon Islands Development Trust Link Magazine.
Ms March left Solomon Islands for her next posting in East Timor on 30th August.  Speaking at a farewell function held for her earlier in the week, Ms March said the biggest strength of Catholic Communication Solomons is the dedication of its staff. "The fact that they turn up to work every day, work on weekends and do it all with a smile is a miracle in itself.  I think this is a great asset and it shows that building on the skills of the staff is a worthwhile investment", she said.  She added that literacy, and a clearer focus, direction, purpose and outcomes would all be of benefit to the organisation. "Understanding the media is fine, but teaching persons to use the media is a far bigger task", she said.
Fr Pereria thanked Ms March for her year at Catholic Communications. "We do hope that this will pave the way for other volunteers", he said.
