Family News PNG - Advent preparation

PORT MORESBY: 14th December 2006 -- 'Family News', said Fr Ricceri (AGC 1977) 'strives to promote, inspire and urge on the Congregation and the Salesian Family'.  In many ways that famous letter kick-started the Congregation's return to a regular news service in function of those aims. The austraLasia e-letter came into being ten years after that letter, and now, ten years after that again, it tries to promote, inspire and urge on - so thanks to the many correspondents around the region who make that possible; this time from Papua New Guinea.
A week ago (9 December), Salesian Family members from Port Moresby gathered in Caritas Technical School chapel for the Salesian Family Advent Recollection. There were 35 SDBs, FMAs CSMs, ADMA, ASC and past pupils present. Fr. Valeriano Barbero sdb gave a talk on Salesian Prayer. Then Sr. Celia Tacujan fma gave a talk on Lectio Divina. The participants were then divided into groups for lectio divina on the Gospel passage for the third Sunday of Advent. During the recollection there were possibilities for personal reflection and prayer as well as for the Sacrament of Reconciliation and Penance. The gathering concluded with the  lighting of the Advent Wreath. Words of gratitude were then expressed to the participants, to the Caritas Sisters  and to Fr. Alfred Maravilla who chairs the PNG SI Commission on the Salesian Family for spearheading the formation of the Salesian Family Council. Fr. Alfred concludes his term this year as he proceeds to Rome for his doctorate in the Gregorian University.

The Salesian Family Council had a regular quarterly meeting. It organised the first ever PNG SI Salesian Family Day last July.

Further north in the Highlands, Last October 22 Tony Utsia and Napoleon Sanchez made their Promise as the first ASC of Kumgi after 3 and a half years of formation. The other 5 ASC aspirants decided to make their Promise at a later date. Fr. Roger Miranda, Raffy Galve, Fr. Angelo Fazzini and Fr. Alfred Maravilla took turns giving inputs based on the ASC PNG-SI Formation Modules. The previous week Fr. Raffy Galve (Rector of DB Kumgi) preached their annual retreat. Last Nov 20-23 Frs. Valerian barbero and Albert Lenon facilitated the annual retreat of Port Moresby Cooperators.
