Scholar, author, provincial dedicates latest book to Australian confreres

MELBOURNE: 25th October 2006 -- Fr Frank Moloney, described as 'perhaps the most prominent Scripture scholar to have emerged in Australia' by a recent reviewer from that nation, has entirely re-written his 1986 The Living Voice of the Gospel and dedicated this latest version to his confreres in the Australian province. He completed his re-writing and pre-publication details of the original text precisely on 31st January 2006.  Like the original text, it appeals particularly to the interested lay reader of the four Gospels, but takes into account an interest which the author says 'now occupies centre-stage' not only for him but in Scripture studies generally, namely the developments in our understanding of literary and narrative aspects of the Gospel texts.  He offers a general understanding of the Gospels and their writing, but also focuses on chosen passages, his comments on which he hopes will bridge the gap between the scholar's knowledge of rhetorical and literary techniques and the lay reader's desire to know the elements of that knowledge which will enable him or her to understand these literary forms as they are proclaimed each day or week and as they assist us 'to live in a way that more closely reflects the way of Jesus traced out for us in the Gospels'.
The Living Voice of the Gospel intends to assist the committed Christian to follow the lectionary, bearing in mind that major Christian denominations have a lectionary cycle which though not the same across the board is based on common principles, and to assist these same committed persons to follow Jesus of Nazareth more closely.  Rich in scholarship but rare in its capacity to tell the story of Jesus to ordinary people, the book is likely to have the same success as the Collins Dove (Aus), Darton Longman and Todd (UK) and Paulist Press (US) earlier editions - all sold out!
For anyone interested in purchasing this latest edition, its AUD price is 34.95, ISBN number 1927021339, and published by John Garratt Publishing.
