Leading Japanese car maker partners Mumbai's Don Bosco Industrial Training Centre
(austraLasia borrowed an on-the-spot Mumbai-based DBITC representative for this report. Thank you)

NEW DELHI: 24th August 2006:  The Taj Mahal Hotel, New Delhi, was the setting yesterday for the national launch of Japan's Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) and Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC)'s unique apprentice training initiative - The Toyota Technical Education Programme (T-TEP).  One of the four recipients of the initiative was St. Joseph's Industrial Training Centre (Don Bosco) at Kurla, Mumbai.  All four institutes (the others located in Delhi, Chennai and Hubli) were selected for their academic reputation in offering automotive courses with proper classrooms, practice areas, and an adequate number of qualified instructors with Government-approved credentials and affilitation.
The T-TEP is a unique programme for preparing industry-ready ITC students. It aims at enhancing skills sets and provides employability for students at Toyota authorised dealerships.  Students from the second year of the two year Mechanical Motor Vehicle course in Kurla, 19 in each unit, will be trained in repairs and diagnostics of Toyota built motor vehicles, after which they will be absorbed as technicians in the dealerships.  TKM will be partnering the Institute by training the instructors to acquire cutting-edge technology in the automotive industry.  It will provide hi-tech training models and service training manuals.
Don Bosco students at Kurla will be trained on the job at the nearby Toyota Dealership.  There will be an exchange of training personnel to follow up on students' progress.  The management has already entered into a memo of understanding with TKM to enhance its training capabilities to provide better materials and achieve greater excellence at qualitative skills both technical and work-culture related productivity-oriented outcomes.
