PNG Pioneer Fr Val receives papal decoration
PORT MORESBY: 23rd April 2006 -- Fr Luciano Odorico announced to confreres in the PNG/SI Delegation today that the Apostolic Nuncio has intervened personally on behalf of Fr Valeriano Barbero sdb, the Delegation's 'original' missionary, to award him with the Papal Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice . Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana cites as reasons for this award Fr Barbero's constant and generous services to the nunciature over many years and to the persons of several nuncios, including himself.
The Nuncio has been transferred to Pakistan where of course he will again come into close contact with Salesians. He wanted in particular to give this award to Fr Barbero before his departure. austraLasia joins with the confreres of the Delegation in wishing Fr Val congratulations and good wishes.
