From Palestine to Pakistan: building the City of Peace!

CREMISAN: 12th December 2005 --  Let this one warm your heart.  A note from Fr Peter Zago, Quetta, Pakistan, gives some indication of the power of peace in children's' hearts, and makes for a wonderful Christmas message.  Several days ago he received a letter from the Palestinian children who frequent the Salesian Sisters' Oratory at Cremisan, now on the 'other side' of the separation barrier between Jerusalem and Palestinian territory; the barrier in fact touches on the FMA property.  The message from Palestine was written on 6th December, Feast of St. Nicholas:
   "Rev and dear Fr Peter,
You'll be surprised in receiving this letter and even more in reading its contents.  But the message that our children want to send you is very important.  They want to tell you that they followed with a lot of prayers the tragedies caused by the earthquake in your Country.  Those who suffer have a better comprehension of those who are struck by misery.  Therefore, our children, even if they are poor, want to come to your aid with a small contribution.  Together with the offerings of the well-off, it may alleviate the pains of those who were struck by the cataclysm.  Our Palestinian children don't have much money, but they are great-hearted.  If the offering is small, it's flavoured with great love.  Tell your children that the best way to get over the pains is to open up to others, because it is by giving that we find joy.  We would like to embrace all of them to make them know that we are close to them even if we live very far from them.  What is not possible to be done physically can come true spiritually.  IF you write to us, we'll be glad to tell you something of our life.  We ask you to pray fro us, so that we may pursue our oratorian project which aims at building the City of Peace.  Everyone tries to offer his own brick for this building and we are sure we'll succeed because united we stand!
