ITM Starts the first of a series of Retreats

JAKARTA: 5 July 2005 -- ITM Vice-Province has scheduled the usual annual retreats for the confreres of Indonesia and East Timor. Fr. Jose Vattaparambil SDB, fresh from his studies in Berkeley, will preach the retreats, starting with the young confreres and the formators in the post-novitiate of Jakarta. The second and third retreats will be held for the confreres of East Timor. The fourth retreat will be for the Indonesian novices who will profess in August.
Sunday, the third of July, a lively group of 41 Salesians, including the provincial Fr. Andres Calleja, gathered in a mountain peak retreat house, three hours away from Jakarta. They began the retreat with sung vespers, singing the psalms, antiphons and responsories. Even the special prayer before the meal was sung to the tune of Edelweiss! Unfortunately, the reporter was present only till after supper of first vespers, so one can only imagine what else they will come up with, or even if the preacher will take to chanting his talks! Then may they at least love the Singer for his song ( a title that has stuck with the reporter; he must have read it somewhere).
