Youth Stand up ! First Radio Bosco FM 89.9 Seminar

 

HONIARA: 15th March 2005 -- “Youth stand up ! Hold your heads high and build a new Solomon Islands"was the encouragment from Fr. Luciano Capelli sdb, as he addressed the participants at the Eucharistic Celebration, held during the Radio Seminar at Don Bosco House of Prayer, Kola Ridge, Honiara. 

    The Radio Seminar, the first one held after the opening of the Community station Radio Bosco FM 89.9, at Tetere, on 27 February, 2005, gave the participants the possibility of understanding and using Mass Media for the good of the community.

     21 participants interacted with each other from 11 to 13 March, 2005.  Jordana Langridge, drama and street theater animator led them in relaxation exercises.  “It brought both the young and the old together in a very relaxed atmosphere”, said Allen Embi from the Tetere Prison Service.  “It made us active and creative giving us the courage to speak in public”, said Philip Nesa from the Grove clinic. 

    The next day was filled with input and exercises animated by Walter Turasi, SIDT Radio and Video coordinator, Joe Vidiki, audio programmer at Catholic Communications and Georgiana Sogoteé Catholic Communications personnel.  Joe Vidiki gave the participants formats for scripting radio programmes, while Walter reinforced voice projection and the proper use of Mass Media always bearing in mind that there is a large audience out there listening.  The basic principles of the Media – information, education and entertainment were stressed.  Role-plays, interviews, advertisements presented the participants with different formats to bring home their message.  The participants were also instructed in the proper use and care of electronic equipment.  “It has been a highly professional seminar”, stated Alena Takacova, Volunteer Radio programmer for Radio Bosco, who briefed the participants on computer basics. 

    “It is through our dedication and commitment that we will be ‘Empowering people, Building community’, stressed Fr. Ambrose Pereira sdb.  “This is our slogan, and we can fulfill it".
