First Provincial for Myanmar: Fr. Joachim Ye Maung
KOLKATA: 19th June '04 -- Following the decision of the Rector Major and his Council some months ago to change the status of Salesian Myanmar from that of a Delegation dependent on Kolkata Province to that of a Vice Province, Fr. John Berger, Provincial of Kolkata Province, has announced to confreres there the appointment of Fr. Joachim Ye Maung as the first provincial of the vice province of Myanmar.
Fr. Ye Maung has already twice been the delegate of the Provincial for Myanmar, a novice-master, and also a pioneering Salesian missionary in the Wa tribe region of Northeast Myanmar. He comes to his new responsibilities well-prepared by this background.
The new vice province will be officially founded on 6th August.
