3 SDBs in Mother Teresa Beatification Ceremony Core Committee


KOKATA, 28 April-- Salesian Archbishop Lucas Sirkar SDB of Kolkata has called for a Core Committee meeting to plan the Beatification Ceremony of Mother Teresa.The event scheduled to take place in Rome on Sunday 19 October 2003 will be celebrated in Kolkata tentatively on Saturday 8th November 2003. The first meeting of the 14 member Core Committee will be held at Archbishop’s House Kolkata on Saturday 3 May, followed by a preparatory Meeting of the Managing Committee at Archbishop’s House, Sunday 4 May.

Besides Archbishop and Vicar General, the Core Committee consists of four diocesan priests, three religious priests (two Salesians and one Jesuit), Sr. Nirmala Joshi MC General and four lay men of the Catholic Association of Bengal.

Besides the archbishop, the other two Salesians in the Core Committee are Salesian Provincial Fr. John Berger (Calcutta native of Mother's Parish - St Mary's Ripon Street) and Fr. C. M. Paul, Director of Nitika, 
25 year old Salesian Catechetical & Media Centre.

The post-Rome celebrations in Kolkata include Liturgical Celebration and a Gathering of Public Homage to the newly Blessed at the Netaji Indoor Stadium where Mother's funeral service was held or at the Brigade Parade Grounds where Pope John Paul II was welcomed, with civil and government dignitaries, inter-faith religious heads and political leaders and Mother Teresa devotees from all walks of life irrespective of caste, creed and religion.
