"They couldn't hit an elephant at this dist......."
epitaph for General Sedgewick, died in battle 1864, imprudently peeping over the parapet - and other famous lines

ROME: 8th February 2006 --  Just to distract the reader from the solid material that's been coming through, and which will continue, given the Rector Major's constant magisterium in Asia, YM meetings and the like, here is a true story from the past 24 hours, but first a little background.
There are quite a number of interesting publication projects going on either in our region or in the English-speaking Salesian world.  Let me mention some of these.  In Africa, a
colourful Project Africa booklet to commemorate 25 years, with contributions from all over Salesian Africa, is just making its way to the public.  The Italian edition is already out, the French is not far behind and English has got to the final revision stage before going back to the printer.  In Timor, an intrepid translator has finally got Memoirs of the Oratory into Tetum, and now the discussion begins as to how to disseminate this.  Elsewhere, Teresio Bosco's Mamma Margaret has been translated into English, gone through the revision stages and should be printed and published before too long.  In China, the final touches are being put to something that should see the light of day in a fortnight or so.  The Social Communication Department becomes involved often at translation or 'revision' levels in these processes, and its personnel are happy to do so.  Printer's ink, or whatever the digital version of that might be (invisibleLink, to coin a new term?) has run in yours truly's veins for many years.
Well, today, from one of the kinds of bodies aforementioned, the following line arrived as part of an email.  It was well-intended:

"I think it will sell, it's a very inspirational story. Once again your energy has been reworded".

Really!  Epitaph for an author who's been translated to death, maybe?
