SDL: 12th December 2008 -- The official announcement of the'Nihil Obstat' to the Cause for Beatification and Canonisation of Slovenian born Salesian missionary to China and Vietnam, Fr Andrej Majcen, was made yesterday in ANS. The rescript from the Congregation of the Causes of Saints was signed by its Prefect, Archbishop Angelo Amato sdb and carries the date 5 November 2008. The rescript, written in Latin, states simply that on the part of the Holy See, there is no objection to proceeding with the Cause of Beatification and Canonisation of Fr Majcen.
Fr Majcen kept what might be called an extensive scrapbook, rather than a diary, or rather, volumes of such. This provided SDL with somewhat of a challenge, since some items are typewritten, some handwritten, some sketches and drawings, others photos and so on. The solution adopted has been to make a paged image pdf of an entire volume or two. Effectively this means you can have access to the three volumes so far treated in this way. A pdf of this size may take a little while to open. He writes mostly in Italian, sometimes in Slovenian, occasionally bits and pieces in Vietnamese and so forth. The three volumes cover the period 1956-72.
Fr Majcen died in 1999 in his home country, Slovenia. After he returned from more than 40 years in the missions in East Asia, he spent the remaining years of his life in his home province carrying out an extraordinary work of missionary animation.
