Martin Nguyễ
n Đại Lộc ordained deacon in Rome

ROME: 22nd June 2008 -- on 21st June evening at the Rome Basilica of Mary Help of Christians (part of the complex which also contains the Pio XI Institute - on the way to the Colle Albani, for those wondering where the Basilica is), Vietnamese Salesian
Martin Nguyn Đại Lộc was ordained deacon along with 10 other companions from Africa (Burundi), South America (Bolivia and Brazil), South Asia (India and Sri Lanka), and Europe (Hungary, Spain, Italy).  The ordaining prelate was the Diocesan Bishop of Latina, Bishop Giuseppe Petrocchi.  He spoke of five points of Salesian fidelity and urged the ordinands to become 'ever more Salesian' as they faithfully carry out their ministry.
It is good to remember Martin, far from home and the only Vietnamese in this particular batch. He completed the early part of his initial formation in Vietnam at Xuan Hiep and Dalat, then under a cooperation scheme which the Ligure-Toscana (ILT) Province has had in place for a number of years with a number of far-flung provinces, Martin exercised his practical training years at Alassio, after which he came to Gerini in Rome for theology.  The intention, under this scheme, is for the students to then return to their home province though they have the option of exercising a further period of ministry in ILT.  There are at least three other Vietnamese students attached to ILT under this scheme - Joachim
Nguy
n Thành Tung, Francis TThiện Huan and Joseph NguyÐức Tam.
