Negombo, Sri Lanka, 13 December 2022 -- Last Saturday, 10 December 2022 two Salesian missionaries from Vietnam, Fr Bartolomew Truong and Fr Joseph Vinh were among the 3 new Salesian priests ordained in Negombo, Shrine of Mary Help of Christians.

       On the invitation of the St Joseph Vice-Province of Sri Lanka, sent by LKC Provincial, Fr. Angelo Sylvester Roshan Miranda, SDB we read:

       With immense joy and gratitude to the Almighty God, we the Salesian Vice-Province of St. Joseph, Sri Lanka announce the Priestly Ordination of:

• Fr. Bartolomew Nguyen Viet Truong SDB
• Fr. Elevitivalage Don Gayan Chamara SDB
• Fr. Joseph Nguyen Quang Vinh SDB

       The Ordination Mass was concelebrated by a few dozen Salesian priests and attended by hundreds of faithful at Mary Help of Christians Shrine, Negombo.

       We congratulate these two new missionary priests from Vietnam. Their parents were not able to join this celebration and we give thanks to Fr Noel Sumagi, SDB - Filipino missionary in Sri Lanka for sending the photo of the ordination Mass. Both Fr Joseph and Fr Bartolomew are members of the 146th Salesian missionary expedition of 2015, the Bicentenary of Don Bosco's death anniversary.

       The Vice-Province of Sri Lanka has experience quite challenging times including the precarious economic situation of this country. According to the SDB Annuario 2022 there are (as of Jan 1, 2022) 77 professed Salesians and 3 novices in Sri Lanka, serving the youth and people of God in 16 different communities around this island country, belonging to the South Asia Region.
